Birthdays 50 & 80

You may know that I am bewitched by numbers. If you have a birthday I will want to know how old you are & then muse about that number & all that that number means to me or you.

So Joslyn is turning 50 & she celebrates her birthday on June 25, because who wants the not-having-enough-specialness-of-a-Christmas birthday?
And we are 30 years apart. I got to thinking about decades, the span of our lives, birthday parties, & cakes.

I went though some of my photos & pulled out a few of all of the above -- ones that I had easy access to.

After Joslyn's birth we have this sweetness... She's 0 & I'm 30.
A year later her birthday dress made by Annie & cake made by me.
I also found two delicious photos of Joslyn at age 5 back when she still celebrated birthdays in December. I'm 35 there.

The next photo I have is of her graduating from high school. This was maybe a June graduation, so maybe close to June 25th....
Similarly her graduation from Evergreen College, 5 years later.
And finally in 2011 a photo from a party we had for Joslyn that June in Olympia. Timmo was slightly overwhelmed.

I don't have an infant photo of me & my mother, alas!
But this one is a classic at age 2.
I love the wool bathing suit!!
The next the summer I was 3, maybe.
My fifth birthday party: me, friends Upty & Betsy & sister Annie.

My 7th birthday...the seesaw turned/pivoted as well as seesawed. Great present: endless hours of play...

Me on July 7, 1951. I was 11... we had a summer on Buzzard's Bay.

The favorite photo, though is not a birthday one, maybe age 12.
At 14, in New Mexico for my birthday in my new a Stetson hat.
I have my first camera! And then at 15.

My first selfie...

For me at age 20 I found 4 photos.

T
The lower two were take at the college, the righthand one for the yearbook. (I had no rapport with the photographer!)

At 30 I was pregnant with Joslyn, & I couldn't find much.
At 40... I gave a party for myself, hung my quilts in the garden, & invited over my women friends. This was the photo of people dressed in solid colors. [Me, ever the sorter!]
At 50 & at my next house we had a bit of a dance in the garden.

For my 60th I threw a contradance party & my two sisters, Annie & Lynne came, among others.
When George + I turned 150 we had a special cake...

In 2010 I turned 70. We went to Tofino.
Then of course my 77th birthday was very unique being on 07/07/17...  Joslyn made me a 7-laden crown...
Which brings me to 2020 & turning 80.
These are the most recent: Covid mugshots after George cut the back of my hair & I cut the front!

I want to circle back to some other birthday cakes of note.

Lucy, at her 5th birthday was presented with this marvelous cake...

Other wonderful 5 year olds...

Finally no birthday honoring Joslyn or anyone in her family would be complete without a treasure hunt.
Here's a photo of Lucy during Joslyn's birthday treasure hunt.

Lucy had a birthday party at the Toutle River.
And the treasure was under this huge chair...
It has been mighty fun reviewing these photos.
I'm super aware of wonderful family & great parties or places.
FIFTY & EIGHTY years of fullness!!
That's it for now.
